Workshopping New Musical

I am so proud to say that I started the new year workshopping a new musical with Texas Performing Arts! It was something that I had never done before. I learned new music and dance numbers to this new musical and it was a great experience to learn what it was like trying to have a new musical take off! We mostly learned different dance numbers to showcase however, it wasn’t typical musical theater dancing.
In the beginning, the director told us that he wanted to make this musical have more abstract movement but make it like a dance as well. He wanted a mixture of different elements of dance with different abstract movements. He wanted the ensemble to be different set pieces and have the world built around the characters by the ensemble! It was a really fun and new experience to be different characters but then also switch out in the middle and become part of the scenery while still engaged in the scene. It was something that I never saw in practice in another musical before.
I got to meet other people from different colleges who were also learning along with me. We all became a close community and after the showcase, we all went out to celebrate the work we had accomplished. I am so happy that I got to be a part of this amazing opportunity that taught me more about how to put on a show and the steps for getting a new show off the ground.

What a great experience for you!
Always a good thing to network
Congratulations
Congrats! Sounds like a lot of hard work, but I’m glad you got to learn new things!
