Along with performing in Shrek the Musical, I was also doing an internship with ZACH Theater in Austin, TX. I had previously been a counselor for ZACH Summer Camps but this summer I was able to officially become a teaching artist! We went through 3 days of training and through that, I got to know more about the other Interns that I would be working with.
During the summer, I wanted to improve on being a counselor from when I had done it last year. I got to share and experience theater with kids of all ages and I got to see them perform in their very own play that they wrote and dance to different musical numbers. There were some very happy moments and also some very hard moments that I had to work through but I learned a lot during those times. I think the biggest thing I learned was that children are attracted to confidence! All throughout the summer, I had been working on improving my confidence and not being afraid to be myself and I can confidently say that through working with the kids, they helped me find my confidence, and helped me expand my imagination.
During one week, I was able to teach for one week a subject of my choice. I decided that I wanted to do K-2nd grade Design. I love making arts and crafts and teaching this class would allow me to think outside the box and be more creative. My crafts were a huge success! My kids that I taught loved them and I even had a few kids write me sweet letters saying how much they loved my class! On performance day, it made me so happy that I saw my kids excitedly show their parents their crafts and drawings they made in my class. Overall, I loved being able to teach and counsel children at a theater camp! I learned a lot about teaching children and I will definitely make sure that I use all of the tools I have learned in the future!

You are always so calm and patient with the kids. What a great opportunity!!
